Have been reading Viktor Klemperer’s diaries – “I Shall Bear Witness” – again.  Not only is it wrenching to read them from within the country where the events took place, but also interesting some of his comments which touch on current events.

He and his wife expressed sympathy for the Palestinians as some of the Klemperer’s friends fled there.  They pitied the Palestinian’s land being “bought.”  Eva compared it to the American Red Indian land grabs by white settlers.

His thoughts on the use of language, the twisting of it by the Nazis, remind me of some of the propaganda shenanigans we, and others, pull today in this whole war business (Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and others).
